All children deserve a safe, nurturing home and days filled with a sense of wonder, and adults need friendships that provide meaning and purpose in life’s milestones and in everyday experiences. At AHHA, we help make that happen.
For more than 30 years, AHHA Communities has provided loving, high-quality care for adults and children with complex medical needs. In 1997, we expanded those services to ventilator dependent support. At AHHA’s beautiful 25-acre Maumee campus, nurses are joined by therapists, specially-trained direct support professionals and others to provide a safe and nurturing home for people with complex medical needs. We’re one of the only agencies in Northwest Ohio, outside of hospitals, able to provide such care, and we’re uniquely trained to work with adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Here children grow up in a home with tender care and with experiences that fuel a sense of wonder and adventure. Meanwhile adults are assisted as they forge relationships and share the kinds of experiences that make life meaningful.
In fact, the heart of AHHA’s mission is creating community for all. We understand that active lives foster family and community relationships at home, in school, at places of worship and at community events. An outing to a favorite park, a Disney show, playground, a concert, or a museum is not just an adventure. It’s an opportunity to develop friendships. It’s time to be ourselves in our most wonderful ways!
It’s also about medical expertise you can trust. Whether it’s a recreational outing, a trip to see family, or a medical appointment, a nurse accompanies staff and individuals on each outing, tending to a person’s medical needs and ensuring each person safely experiences the day to its fullest.
Nurses and therapists maintain close relationships with area pediatric specialists, including the pediatric pulmonologists at Mercy Children’s Hospital and Toledo Children’s Hospital. In the event that a person needs to be hospitalized, the AHHA nursing department collaborates in a care plan and ensures that, once the residents returns to AHHA, staff follow each step of the care plan to ensure comfort and their best health.
Additionally, AHHA’s medical directors visit the facility at least weekly and are on-call around-the-clock to respond to nurses’ calls.
Questions? Great! We appreciate that. At AHHA we want to work with you to ensure loved ones are not only cared for, but nurtured and loved as well. With your help, we build happy childhoods and meaningful days for all. Let us help you sort through your questions and weigh your options. See the difference AHHA can make.
